Success at Mantua

Tyler Adams of Brigham City reports catching 30 nice-sized bluegills in two hours at Mantua. He was fishing a crystal tube jig on a 1/32 ounce leadhead near the knoll. The biggest fish he caught was 11 inches long and weighed 1 1/2 pounds.

His brother, Chad, fished the reservoir from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on June 2 and caught 50 bluegills on homemade flies. The largest was 10 inches long and had a belly 1-1/2 inches across. "The bluegill fishing is great right now," Chad said. "Just walk around until you find some bluegills in the shallows and cast out past the little fish, and be prepared for some of the biggest bluegill around and non-stop action."

Fishing for trout is slow at Mantua. Bass fishing is good. For the bass try damselfly nymphs. Bass are spawning in the shallows and are guarding nests.

The bass daily bag limit is now 6 fish under 12 inches. Anglers are encouraged to release all bass over 12 inches into a holding pond on the east side of the reservoir, at the base of the knoll. Otherwise, they must be released back into the reservoir.
