Launching Conditions At Lake Powell - 2004

This information was compiled by DWR's Wayne Gustaveson. Watch his website for updates: www.wayneswords.com.

3-22-04 - Construction work is underway on Lake Powell ramps to ensure good launching conditions for this boating season. At this writing, launching is possible on good, concrete ramps at Wahweap and Halls Crossing. At Bullfrog, boats under about 25' can be launched on a good dirt ramp. The main Bullfrog ramp is being extended and a new, larger ramp is also being constructed.

Launch ramp extension work should be completed by the end of April and launching conditions should be good at all of these marinas through the 2004 boating season.

No launching facilities will be available at Hite this season. Primitive launching away from developed marinas will be very difficult if not impossible this year.

Wahweap - The Wahweap main ramp is the only ramp available for launching at this time. This ramp will be extended 150' this year and have a 9% grade. During periods of extension, at least 50' of the ramp will be available for public use at all times. Stateline Ramp is being extended. Some 150' of concrete has been poured and an additional 150' will be poured to complete the extension this year. The Stateline ramp should provide good launching as the lake level comes up this spring.

Antelope Point ramp is currently closed. Work is underway to extend the ramp approximately 200'. The ramp will have a 9-11% grade upon completion. Rough grading of marina roads, parking areas, concessionary ramp, and dry storage is on-going. Slips and walkways are being installed. For up-to-date information on the marina construction visit Antelope Point Holding's web site at www.azmarinas.com.

Bullfrog - A primitive dirt launch site near the Bullfrog Main Ramp will be available for launching of small vessels until the main ramp is useable. During this time period, NPS recommends launching all vessels 25' and over at Halls Crossing. The Bullfrog main ramp has been extended nearly 400' and has a 7% grade. However, the width of the ramp has been narrowed to 75'. This ramp will be useable as soon as lake levels allow. The new Bullfrog North Ramp - a 400' long, 50' wide ramp with a 9% grade is currently under construction for larger boats. Look for new signage upon entry into the Bullfrog developed area. The National Park Service recommends all vessels 25' and longer use this new ramp once complete.

Halls Crossing ramp remains in good shape and can handle large boats.

Other Areas - At current lake levels, there is no public launch ramp at Hite. All water-based marina facilities have been relocated to marina areas downstream. Land-based facilities remain open, including the campground, family housekeeping units, gas station, store, and dry storage.
