The Duchesne County Area Chamber of Commerce announces the 12th Annual Starvation Walleye Classic on September 6 and 7, 2003, at Starvation State Park near Duchesne, Utah.
Starvation Reservoir has held an almost mythical appeal to Utah's walleye anglers. Over the years it has been one of the state's most consistent walleye fisheries. Maybe that's why the Starvation Walleye Classic has endured as Utah's longest running walleye tournament. Every year since 1992 several dozen two-angler teams from Utah and surrounding states have competed for cash prizes at Utah's premier walleye event.
The whole community gets behind this event each year. This year's tournament will feature a raffle with prizes donated by businesses and distributors in Duchesne and from around the state. A barbeque will also be held for participants. Motels and restaurants are available in nearby Duchesne, Utah.
Entry fees are $250 per two-angler team and an optional $20 per team for the big fish pot. Anglers can weigh up to 10 walleyes over 12 inches long each day. All fish are weighed and released alive, and anglers are penalized for bringing in injured fish.
The Classic is open to any two person team with a boat. Boats need to have an aerated livewell of some sort to keep fish alive and healthy.
The 2002 Classic was won by the father/son team of Jerry and Jason Pendleton, who caught a two day total of 17 walleye for a total of 19.65 pounds. The big fish on Day One was a 4.41 pound walleye caught by Wes Schneider. The big fish on Day Two was a 6.71 pounder caught by Jerry Pendleton.
Sponsors of this year's Classic include: Robertson's Marine/Crestliner Boats, Exide Batteries, Rocky Mountain Anglers, Duchesne City, Starvation State Park and Pure Fishing.

The Starvation Forage Enhancement Project was conducted as a cooperative effort among Utah anglers and the DWR to improve fishing in Starvation Reservoir by reducing the population of stunted walleyes. It ran for three years and involved hundreds of volunteer hours each year. For more information on the project
