![]() Wayne Crowder - Team Crowder! ![]() “A day on the lake with Wayne Crowder, one of Utah’s top anglers, is an unforgettable experience. Crowder treats his guests to a thorough education, great fishing, and some of the funniest commentary since the television series, Jimmy Houston Outdoors.”
Wayne Crowder loves fishing. “I was born with a passion to do this,” he will often say. As a professional fisherman, Wayne has participated in numerous events and competitions around the country. He finished the 2005 season making the Utah state team and placing second in the running for Utah Angler of the Year. He also participated for the first time as a pro in the Everstart® Western series and was ranked 48th out of more than 400 Western anglers. He has become known throughout Utah as “Mr. Bass,” thanks to a featured spot in TV commercials for Ken Garff Nissan of Orem. In addition to his recent successes, Wayne also fished in the Everstart® National Championship on Lake Pickwick, Alabama (November 2005) and the Stren® Series National Championship on Lake Wheeler, Alabama (November 2006). In three of the last four years, Wayne has twice made the Utah state team’s top six and has twice won the “Catch a Cure for Cancer” charity tournament. Wayne’s determination to succeed as a professional fisherman has caught the attention of numerous corporations and organizations, winning him sponsorships from the Tracker Marine Group – Nitro boats division, Ken Garff Nissan of Orem, MarineMax of Salt Lake City, Key City Insurance, Dr. Marc Bowers Chiropractic Care, SignCity, Discount Tires, Stren fishing line, Powell rods, Abu Garcia reels, Fish Hedz, and Wavetronix LLC.
A native of Kenai, Alaska, Crowder began fishing at an early age, and some of his fondest memories are of learning to catch salmon and trout with his dad. He remembers watching fishing showson cable TV and thinking, “Fishing would be a great way to make a living.” After graduating from high school and serving as a representative for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Wayne moved to Utah and in the fall of 2002 joined the Utah B.A.S.S. Federation, getting his feet wet in local tournaments. He now serves as the federation’s information officer.
Today, Wayne resides in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has a master’s degree in Computer Information Systems and is currently employed as the IT Manager for the Jack Johnson Company in Park City. Wayne’s love for fishing is matched only by his love for people; when he’s not at work or on the water, he can be found fishing charity events like “Catch a Cure for Cancer” or C.A.S.T. for Kids, an organization that teams volunteers with disabled or disadvantaged children for a day of fishing. “I love helping these kids experience what I experience,” he says. “Being out on the water, catching a fish or watching the sunrise. What else do you need?”
